After failing multiple magic tests, Arrah leaves the celebration. Despite this, Arrah can still see magic, and her Grandmother believes it will come in time. Arrah is also considered an outsider, as she was born to a woman living in Tamar, and Oshee, a witchdoctor in the Atiri tribe. Her mother, who is the Ka-priestess of the Kingdom, is distant due to disappointment. It is revealed that she comes from a family of powerful magic users, but has never obtained her own power.
